Aerospace One took delivery of their first B742 registered SX-ASC in Athens

Newly established Greek cargo airline Aerospace One took today delivery in Athens of their first Boeing 747-21AC(M), registered SX-ASC (ex AP-BIB, c/n 23652). The flight arrived at 19:20L as SX-ASC (although in the transpoder it was showing as RAB304) from CGK (Jakarta, Indonesia) via SHJ (Dubai, UAE) and landed on runway 21L. The company will be based in CHR (Chateauroux, France) and will operate a mix of ACMI and charter services.

Saudi Arabia Boeing 747-SP registered HZ-AIJ in Athens

A Saudi Arabian Royal Flight operated by the Boeing 747-SP registered HS-AIJ arrived today in ATH from Riyadh AB in Saudi Arabia. The flight, SVA001C, landed at 20:00L on rwy 21R. This is only the fourth 747-SP to ever land in Athens airport (the others being Corsair F-GTOM, United Arab Emirates A6-SMR and Iran Air EP-IAC). It is schedule to depart tomorrow around 15:00L

Three British Airways Boeing 747s diverted to Athens due to LHR closure

Three British Airways Boeing 747s diverted to Athens today due to the closure of London Heathrow airport. The weather in LHR was so bad that all the inbound flights had to be diverted to other airports and only a couple of departures were made possible. Three of the longhaul flights of BA were diverted to Athens early in the morning. Those were:

G-BNLY operating BA010 between SYD (Sydney, Australia) - BKK (Bankong, Thailand) - LHR
G-BYGB operating BA012 between SIN (Singapore) - LHR
G-CIVB operating BA028 between HKG (Hong Kong, China) - LHR

All three of them are parked in the southern apron of Athens and according to London Heathrow airport, the flights are expected to operate -weather permitting- on Monday.

China's Prime Minister is paying an official visit to Greece and arrived today on an Air China Boeing 747-400 registered B-2472. The flight, Air China 031, landed at 13:50L on runway 03R of Athens and was parked on the VIP stand.

Lufthansa B747-400M registered D-ABTC on the Frankfurt-Athens flight

The scheduled LH 3382/3383 Lufthansa flight from FRA (Frankfurt, Germany) to Athens was operated today, out of a sudden, by a Boeing Boeing 747-430M registered D-ABTC instead of the usual Airbus A321! If I am not mistaken this is the first Lufthansa B747 to visit Athens airport.

Mishap in Athens airport: Planes parked on taxiway "B" were moved and pushed due to strong winds

A mishap occurred earlier today in Athens airport taxiway "B", where the Olympic Airlines fleet is parked. Due to the strong winds blowing in the area, two of the planes that were parked on taxiway "B" where blown away from their positions. The planes affected were Boeing 737 registered SX-BKF and ATR 72 registered SX-BIF. The Boeing was turned at least 45 degrees counterclockwise and moved into the grass. The ATR was turned almost 180 degrees counterclockwise but only the front landing gear was moved into the grass. It is very lucky that the planes didn't collide with any others next to them, since they are parked very close to each other. Currently there are 26 planes parked on the south part of taxiway "B". The position of the two planes can be seen on the last picture of this post.

JAL Boeing 747 registered JA8086 and White Airbus A310 registered CS-TKI in Athens

Two special visitors arrived in ATH yesterday evening on charter flights. The first one was a JAL - Japan Airlines Boeing 747 registered JA8086 that arrived from NRT (Narita, Japan), the first ever JAL airplane to land in ATH. The second was a White Airways Airbus A310 registered as CS-TKI arriving from LIS (Lisbon, Portugal).

If a "Photo needed" appears in the last column it means that we know this plane landed in ATH but we don't have photographic confirmation. If anyone has one, please read the "Help / Contribute" section below the list on how you can help us confirm that.
This list is not complete. There are certainly some Boeing 747s that are not in it for various reasons (arrival/departure late at night, noone to report their arrival etc). If you know that one (or more) are not in this list, please read the "Help / Contribute" section as well.

Elite Airlines Boeing 747 registered SX-DCB in Athens

Elite Airlines Boeing 747SR-81(F) registered SX-DCB arrived in ATH last night at 04:35L from Tehran, where it was making a fuel stop. It had departed earlier yesterday from CGK (Jakarta, Indonesia). It landed on runway 03R at 04:35L and parked on taxiway Z.

Elite Airlines Boeing 747 registered SX-DCB coming to Athens

Elite Airlines Boeing 747SR-81(F) registered SX-DCB is scheduled to arrive in ATH today at 15:00L from CGK (Jakarta, Indonesia) via THR (Tehran, Iran). It was in CGK for heavy maintenance with GMF-Aeroasia (see post) and was seen on Wednesday being towed from the GMF hangar to a ramp near Terminal 2.

There was an indefinite delay on the arrival of the plane. It is yet unknown when exactly it will be arriving but it should happen in the coming days.

Hellenic Imperial Airways Boeing 747-200 registered SX-TIC back in Athens

Hellenic Imperial Airways Boeing 747-200 registered SX-TIC arrived in ATH last night from CGK (Jakarta, Indonesia) where it was undergoing a C-Check at GMF-Aeroasia (see post). It is painted in the new revised HIA colors, like SX-TIE had when it returned from CGK. Boeing 747-200 registered SX-TID is still in CGK for it's C-Check (see post).

Elite Airlines news

Elite Airlines first Boeing 747SR-81(F) registered SX-DCB is expected to arrive in Athens soon (possibly in the first half of May) from CGK (Jakarta, Indonesia) where it is currently undergoing heavy maintenance. Another two Boeing 747s (freighter versions) are expected to be added to the fleet in the future. The company will only operate charter cargo flights. No pax flights to be performed, as it's not in their business plan.

Midex Airlines Boeing 747-200F registered A6-MDG in Athens

Midex Airlines Boeing 747-200F registered A6-MDG arrived yesterday at 18:40L in Athens from ORY (Orly, France) as MIX002. It stayed overnight in Athens and is schedule to depart later this week.

Hellenic Imperial Airways Boeing 747 registered SX-TID departing for Jakarta

Hellenic Imperial Airways Boeing 747 registered SX-TID departed Athens today at 17:20L as IMP473 for CGK (Jakarta, Indonesia). It is probably going to CGK for maintenance and painting at the Garuda Maintenance Facility Aeroasia (GMF Aeroasia). Both SX-TIE and SX-TIC have been in GMF Aeroasia for C-checks and repainting to the new colors of the company (SX-TIC is still with GMF and expected to be back in Athens soon).

JAL Boeing 747 in Athens for JTB charter in September

Japan Travel Bureau (JTB) has included Athens in it's summer 2009 charter flights schedule. Flights for the JTB will be operated by JAL Boeing 747-400. There will be only one charter flight to Athens from NRT (Tokyo, Japan). It is scheduled to arrive in Athens on Wednesday 16/9/2009 and depart on Thursday 24/9/2009. Approximately 350 people will be onboard this flight.

Update 14/9/2009
There is a slight change on the schedule mentioned above. The flight from NRT is expected to arrive on Wednesday 16/9 around 17:20L and the return flight was moved a day earlier, on Wednesday 23/9, with schedule departure time around 21:10L.

Hellenic Imperial Airways Boeing 747's test flights

Hellenic Imperial Airways did a couple of test flights during the last few days. Specifically on 2/4/2009 the Boeing 747 registered SX-TID flew for about one hour and on 6/4/2009 the Boeing 747 registered SX-TIB flew for 30 minutes (15:45L - 18:15L) on the ATH-RIPLI-KEA-ATH route reaching FL190
Probably SX-TIB is being prepared to depart for CGK (Jakarta, Indonesia) for a C-Check at GMT Aeroasia.

Elite Airlines Boeing 747SR-81(F) registered SX-DCB is still parked in CGK (Jakarta, Indonesia) as the picture below shows. It was moved from it's parking position that was a few weeks ago and was brought forward, closer to the GMF hangar. This is where the 747 of Hellenic Imperial Airways (SX-TIC) used to be parked in the previous weeks. Probably the HIA 747 is in the GMF hangar for the C-Check. Does the movement of Elite Airlines' 747 mean that it's in the queue for the hangar for a check? We will find out shortly!

Elite Airlines Boeing 747SR-81(F) registered SX-DCB is confirmed to be parked in CGK (Jakarta, Indonesia) along with Hellenic Imperial Airways Boeing 747-200 registered SX-TIC. The pictures are not perfect due to obstacles but it's clear that these two airplanes were in Jakarta at least until 16/2/2009. The 747 of Hellenic Imperial Airways is currently undergoing a C-Check at GMF-Aeroasia's hangar in Jakarta Airport.
